Avatar Story
Avatar is a fantasy story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a former Marine in Pandora, a green planet where alien race known as the Na’vi. Avatar story begins when Jake Sully followed the Avatar program and sent to the planet Pandora with a ‘new body’ known as an Avatar.
Jake Sully has a task to guide some people to search new mineral resources for industrial purposes in the earth.
In Pandora’s travel, Jake Sully met Neytiri (Zoë Saldaña), a Na’vi from Pandora. Like other movies, Jake Sully fell in love with Neytiri. It makes a dilemma between continue his exploring mission in Pandora or defends the Na’vi.
James Cameron cleverly illustrates how human greed in nature to exploit the environmental damage. It make human search any mineral source in new planet like Pandora.
Avatar and Vatican
In the other side, The Vatican’s newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano and its radio station criticize the film about spiritualism linked to the worship of nature. The idea that worship of nature can replace religion make The Pope has warned against.
The radio says “nature is no longer a creation to defend but a divinity to worship,”
Avatar and China Policy
Controversy of Avatar is also influence to China, China government stop the showing of Avatar in the cinemas. This banned is connected with the eviction problem in China.
Avatar the movie is told a company that ruthlessly forcing Na’vi as natives to leave their homes in order to mineral resources purpose. China found a political resonance in the Avatar’s story of the Na’vi’s battle to protect their land and culture from outsiders, comparing them to Chinese citizens fighting to protect their property from the government and developers.
On the other hand China Government disprove about their policy, they said discontinue the film applied to 2D version caused decreasing of revenue. They also denied the policy to protecting their domestic film. At the same time, Confucius starred by Chow Yun Fat has released.
